In the UK there is a current and growing crisis regarding the use of antibiotics. This is because a large number of bacteria are developing immunity to them because they have been overused. Antibiotics will only be prescribed if the ANP or GP believes that they are absolutely necessary to support your immune system in fighting a bacterial infection.
Antibiotics will not cure a cold, or flu or any other viral infection, and we will not be able to prescribe antibiotics for these things.
If you are seen by an ANP who does not prescribe antibiotics for you the GPs will also not prescribe them. If your symptoms persist and/or get worse you need to return to the Practice to be seen again for re-assessment which can be undertaken by either an ANP or a GP.
